Mr. Gunn - I wasn't aware that people were asked to hold off adding the icon to older posts. The email I received on Sunday from Dave Munger asked me to add the icon to some of my older posts, indicating that the BPR blog post the icons link to will serve as a "poor person's aggregator" until the aggregation system is running in a few weeks.

I'm hopeful that the topic-specific RSS aggregation feeds will make the BPR3 system more that just an aggregator of scienceblogs.com posts. I think you're right though ... parsing the feeds would be much more powerful if they utilized metadata to describe the citations.

It's possible that they asked people in general to hold off, while emailing some people separately.

The people behind bpr3 have actually asked for people to hold off adding the icon to all their old posts until they get the aggregation system(whatever it is) ironed out.

Even when they do, it remains to be seen if it's actually going to work.
