Thanks for the comment Rosario. Note that scientific studies continue to fail to find a link between vaccination and autism. Here's just a few of the more recent studies:

- Mrozek-Budzyn and Majewska. Lack of Association Between Measles-Mumps-Rubella Vaccination and Autism in Children: A Case-Control Study. Pediatr Infect Dis J. 2009 Dec 1. [Epub ahead of print] View abstract

- Miller and Reynolds. Autism and vaccination-the current evidence. J Spec Pediatr Nurs. 2009 Jul;14(3):166-72. View abstract

- Hornig et al. Lack of association between measles virus vaccine and autism with enteropathy: a case-control study. PLoS One. 2008 Sep 4;3(9):e3140.

What's more, following a two-and-a-half year ethics investigation, Andrew Wakefield, the UK researcher who suggested a link between autism spectrum disorders and MMR vaccination, was found by the General Medical Council (GMC) (the group that registers doctors to practice medicine in the UK) to have acted "dishonestly and irresponsibly" in his research. (seventh article down in the list of Health Highlights)

This is a great article. This information should be communicated to parents who delay or withhold some or all vaccines from their children. Some parents perceive immunizations to be unimportant as many communicable childhood diseases are now rare. However, if children are not vaccinated, the rest of the population are placed at a greater risk of contracting these diseases.
Vaccination is a medical procedure that does carry some risk of complications. There are concerns that vaccines may be linked to autism and may contain neurotoxic materials. Parents do have the right to refuse immunization for their children but it is their responsibility to become informed about the risks and benefits of vaccines. Only be educating themselves can parents arrive at a balanced and individual vaccination choice.
