There is no other endpoint evolution can reach. If a trait increases survival and reproduction, evolution will increase that trait until there is no more increase; that is when deaths due to more of the trait are balanced by deaths due to not enough of that trait. Evolution minimizes the <strong>sum</strong> of deaths due to not enough of a trait and deaths due to too much of the trait. Evolution pushes the metabolism of ALL organs and tissue compartments to their metabolic limits.
