[...] Let us point our port-side antenna toward Walter at Highlight Health. Walter contributes "An Inconvenient Financial Truth - Healthcare Costs Endanger U.S. Financial Stability". This story isn't exactly a news-flash. We've known for some time that as the boomers age we're gonna run out of cash to pay for the entitlements we've promised them. The bit that really sticks in Flea's craw is this quote [...]

[...] Highlight Health delivers us an inconvenient financial truth about healthcare costs being dangerous for US financial stability. It is sobering article that tries to put in perspective the magnitude of this problem. [...]

Area Man, you are correct. My kids are on a state plan, but my wife and I can only afford a very high-deductible plan. If one of us were to get hurt or sick and have to go to the hospital, there's no way we'd be able to pay our bills. We can barely make ends meet as it is.

I caught a bit of the Presidential Candidates Health Care Forum on CSPAN tonight and Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut actually said that, if elected, he planned to expand Medicare and Medicaid. You would think that people in government - especially U.S. Presidential candidates - would appreciate the magnitude of the problem and call attention to it, not advocate increased spending!

I saw Walker on television a couple of months ago making this point. The numbers are staggaring. The healthcare system in the United States is shocking. I can't believe such a wealthy country can't do better for its people. I don't know anyone of my many many friends in the US who has adequate health care. All it takes is one illness and you are bankrupt. It is barbarism. Centralizing some of these services would save a whack of money and make it much much more available to people and much - easier to figure out. A lot of the waste is in unnavigable bureaucratic systems - having such bureaucracy not only annoys everyone, it privileges the rich.
